Mike Roark
The male lead (cast by Tommy Lee Jones) is the head of the city’s Office of Emergency Management. The director of the Los Angeles Crisis Management Center, a workaholic who will be put into work even if there is an accident on vacation. When the accident happens, he was on vacation to accompany her daughter, Kelly. Before the outbreak of Mount Weisson, he was still on the Weisson Avenue and witnessed the outbreak of Mount Weisson. He became the on-site commander to help save people, and finally successfully led all rescuers through the disaster.

Amy Barnes
The female lead ( cast by Anne Heche) is the Ph.D. in Geology, California Center for Geology. In the disaster, she provided a lot of practical geographic information, and later joined Mark’s rescue work, and was asked by Mark to retrieve Kelly after arriving at Cedar Hospital.

Kelly Roark
The only daughter ( cast by Gaby Hoffmann) born to Mark and his ex-wife who is 13 years old and is very afraid of the earthquake. She was with Mark when the Mount Weisson outbreaks and witnessed the first outbreak of Mount Weisson. She was burned by a small fireball ejected by the lava bomb and was taken to the Cedar Hospital for treatment by the doctor present.
Plot
A devastating volcano erupted in the depths of Los Angeles and flowed toward residential areas. Workers who repaired underground pipes were burned to death. Geologist Amy and his friends went through the tunnel survey and experienced a friend who was taken away by the magma eruption. For a time, the city was filled with magma that broke out underground. The chief of the crisis management center, Mike (Tommy Lee Jones), took Dr. Amy’s advice and began to evacuate the crowd. They first used millions of tons of aerial precipitation to turn the imposing magma into an obstacle and block the flow of magma. Just when everyone thought that they were relieved, Dr. Amy thought that the magma was not really blocked, but changed the direction of the flow, and was rushing to the hospital full of wounded. They only have 30 minutes left to deal with this problem. Mike decided to demolish a 22-story condominium building to stop lava flowing to the medical district and other parts of the west side of Los Angeles. Finally, lava flows directly into the ocean.
The most memorable part:
One of the parts is after the earthquake, in order to search for and rescue the lost red line train, the Los Angeles Metro Car Supervisor (Stan Olber) with his team of people will be searched and rescued in the tunnel which has been swallowed by the lava, and finally Stan was buried in the lava in order to rescue the driver. I was impressed by this scene that Stan sacrificed himself to rescue the driver.
Another part is when the magma has flowed to the city and Mike is leading all the rescuer and used millions of tons of aerial precipitation to turn the imposing magma into an obstacle and block the flow of magma. All the people unite together without ethnicity to stop this disaster.
